Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), took a significant step on Thursday by inaugurating a modern library dedicated to the memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

This initiative not only serves as a tribute to the former president but also reflects Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s deep respect for Mills, whom he described as a “good man” and a “great leader.”

Interestingly, he also expressed his belief that Atta Mills was aligned with the wrong political party during his lifetime, hinting at the complexities of political affiliations and their impact on leadership.

The library, located in Ekumfi Otuam—the hometown of President Mills—was entirely funded by Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo.

The project was overseen by Samuel Koku Anyidoho, the CEO of the Atta Mills Institute, which is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the late president.

During the inauguration ceremony, Napo took the opportunity to extol the virtues of Atta Mills, describing him as a wise leader and a true gift to the nation of Ghana.

His remarks highlighted the importance of remembering and honoring leaders who have made significant contributions to the country.

In his speech, Dr. Opoku Prempeh also voiced concerns regarding the current political landscape, particularly criticizing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under John Dramani Mahama.

He accused the party of attempting to claim credit for various projects associated with Atta Mills, suggesting that such actions diminish the former president’s genuine contributions to Ghana’s development.

This assertion underscores the ongoing political rivalry and the struggle for legacy recognition in Ghanaian politics.

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his efforts in honoring President Mills.

He also issued a challenge to the late president’s brothers, urging them to reflect on their own contributions to preserving their brother’s legacy.
