From security guard to top Pharmacy student – The inspiring journey of Yahaya

Just a few years ago, Yahaya Mubarik Mbeinba stood at the entrance of Vivo Energy as a G4S security guard, watching professionals walk past him each day.

He had the qualifications, the ambition, and the dream—but not the means.

Despite excelling in his WASSCE, financial constraints crushed his hope of pursuing higher education.

He had secured admission to study Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Ghana, but with no money, no support, and no hope, he was forced to let go of that opportunity.

But fate had other plans. His dedication and demeanour at work caught the attention of a few individuals who decided to take an interest in him. When they saw his remarkable WASSCE results, they knew his potential was too great to be left unrealized.

Determined to change his story, they rallied together, with the help of God, to ensure Yahaya’s dream of becoming a doctor was not just a wish but a reality.

Fast forward to today, Yahaya stands tall—not in a security uniform, but in a pristine white coat, a symbol of his remarkable journey. Now a student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he has not only excelled but has been recognized as the best student in Pharmaceutics and the overall best student in the pre-clinical years of the PharmD program.

For Yahaya, this moment is surreal—one he once thought impossible. But his story is more than just personal triumph. It is a testament to resilience, the power of mentorship, and the kindness of those who choose to lift others.

As he embarks on the next phase of his journey, Yahaya carries with him a profound lesson: success is not just about personal achievement, but about the impact we can make in the lives of others.

He hopes that his story will inspire many—especially those from humble beginnings—to chase their dreams, no matter how far out of reach they may seem.
