A recent Afrobarometer report shows that 85% of Ghanaians want the Free Senior High School programme to be continued.

The report also highlighted a strong support for other initiatives; as 81% favor the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, 71% back One District One Factory, and 60% like the One Village One Dam policy.

On the other hand, there is significant opposition to the electronic transactions levy (E-levy), with 79% wanting it removed.

When asked about urgent issues, unemployment was the top concern for 41% of respondents, followed by infrastructure and road development at 38%, and healthcare at 33%.

The report highlights economic struggles, with 82% of Ghanaians experiencing some poverty in the past year. Additionally, 45% faced moderate to severe economic hardship, a rise from 19% in 2017.

70% reported having no cash income at least once in the past year, and many-faced shortages in essential services like medical care (54%), water (44%), food (44%), and cooking fuel (42%).

Only 45% expect the economy to improve in the coming year, and the government’s economic performance ratings have dropped, reflecting concerns over the rising cost of living and limited access to essential services.
