The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh also known as Napo, announced that if the party wins under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, they will elevate nursing and midwifery colleges from diploma to degree-awarding institutions.

This change mirrors the recent upgrade of teacher training colleges by the current NPP government.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained that this upgrade will allow all nursing and midwifery students to graduate with degrees, improving their professional status and working conditions.

He shared this information while speaking to trainee nurses and midwives at the Komfo Anokye Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Kumasi on December 2, 2024, during his campaign.

He also promised the trainees that they would find jobs after finishing their studies, highlighting that the government’s Agenda 111 hospitals will create over 70,000 job opportunities for nurses and midwives, with all hospitals expected to be completed by June next year.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh warned against voting for John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming they would cancel the trainee allowances restored by the NPP and halt the construction of the Agenda 111 hospitals, similar to their actions in 2008 when they abandoned projects initiated by the NPP.

He emphasized that a Mahama presidency would lead to the loss of trainee allowances and the discontinuation of vital healthcare projects.
